Activities, Printouts, and Links Cool "buggy" facts and links: Here at the library, we’re buzzing with activity. The air is a flutter with excitement. The staff is antsy with anticipation. Why? Because it won’t “bee” long until the 2008 Summer Reading Program! This year’s theme (in case you haven’t already guessed) is “Catch the Reading Bug”. (The program runs from the sign-up day, June 2, through June 27. If you’ve never attended a summer reading program, here’s how it works: Children preschool age through grade 6 are eligible to participate. You may sign your child up at any time during library hours (Mon: 8 a.m.- 7 p.m. or Tue-Fri: 8 a.m.-5 p.m.) beginning June 2. You will receive a log book and a time log to record the titles of books you read this summer and the number of hours spent reading. This year, you must complete a total 4 hours of reading to be eligible to attend the extra special grand finale on June 27. The importance of reading aloud to children of all ages cannot be stressed enough, even for children who are able to read on their own. This year, we invite families to join the Parents as Reading Partners portion of the Summer Reading Program. When you sign up for this program, you agree to read aloud to your child on a regular basis. You set the amount of time. It doesn’t matter whether it’s ten minutes or an hour a day. At the end of the reading program, you and your child(ren) will receive a certificate and a chance to win a family prize. As always, the library offers a wide variety of programs and give-aways all month, so pick up a list of the Friday special events at the library. Drop in as often as possible and check our Activities, Prinouts, and Links page to download puzzles, games and activities Each year, our Summer Reading Program, in addition to motivating children to read, promotes positive attitudes about reading and books, and encourages regular use of the library. Participation also enables children to maintain and develop their reading skills during summer vacation. So crawl, wiggle or swarm in to Knott County Public Library, get “buggy” for books and check out our “ant-ics.” After this year’s Summer Reading Program, your whole family will be real bookworms!
